Part 4: Assistance of Attorney

As citizens, we have the opportunity to interact with our government on a somewhat regular basis. We all know how to mail a package at the post office, where to send our children to school, or how to get our license renewed at the DMV. However, when it comes to the jail, most people only know that it is an unpleasant place where we don’t want our friends or family to be. The average person can go through life satisfied with knowing little or nothing about what happens after someone is arrested but with single late night phone call you no longer fit into that category.

Calling the jail directly can be helpful to an extent, but they are by no means in the customer service oriented operation. The Collin County Jail has so many different jail procedures that they actually provide a week long orientation for inmates who end up staying long enough. Fortunately, many people miss out on orientation week because of the diligent efforts of friends or family members. But, what starts off as a dilemma for the arrested person can quickly become a nightmare those on the outside trying to help.

This article discusses the policy procedures for four of the more common issues that relate to assisting a person recently arrested for an offense in Collin County. These issues include:

  1. Communicating With a Person in Jail
  2. Book-in/Processing
  3. Medical
  4. Assistance of an Attorney
